Singapore, the land of home and food!

Been a few days since dulcy and I got home! :) Been indulging in local food!

\

Kuay chap at Heartland Mall hawker centre, with my 30 cents soya bean (cheapest soya bean ever). Soya bean uncle and aunty have never changed their pricing of their drinks since they opened! And I'm happy that they still remembered us! Hee! Duck, egg, tau fu and pig intestines. So yum yum!

Egg noodles? My dad said it was 鸡蛋面. So I guess I directly translated it! It's at Ang Mo Kio hawker centre, near Ang Mo Kio Secondary school and some other school that I can see from the hawker centre but have no idea which school is it. Soup with meatballs, minced meat, egg, fish cake and vegetables! So yummy.

It's really hard to find night markets in Singapore nowadays (and they can happen anytime and anywhere). Luckily my mum spotted one for us at Toa Payoh, and we went the next night to grab the food!
Managed to grab the steamed puti piring (a Malay food that is steamed with brown sugar inside), muah chee (rice cake with peanut and sugar) and tako yaki (Japanese tako balls with sotong inside, eaten with BBQ sauce, mayonnaise and fish flakes)! Didn't managed to eat ramly burger because it was a really long queue! :( Maybe when daffy's back, we'll go again, provided it is still there.

Steamed tutu kuehs! At Queensway mall, because I had to get some sports attire from there. It's 5 for $2.50. :( Increased price! But I love it so much! I always eat the peanut fillings one, despite having another choice of coconut. Apparently now there are other fillings like chocolate and durian. Hmm..

Ya Kun kaya toast! Who can ever forget this. 2 slices of kaya butter toast with 2 soft boiled eggs and ice milo. Perfect breakfast to begin the day with!

Laksa at Katong! Famous and cheap! Only $2. Seriously, where can you find laksa that is $2? Apparently my parents said they started their business on motorbikes, at $0.50 per bowl. Haha! Laksa has fish cakes and cockles (my favourite).

Durians from Serangoon! Some may claim it's smelly, but some (like us) claim it's the king of fruits. Noms! There are 2 types, sweet and bitter. We love the sweet type, whereas my parents love the bitter ones.

Can't wait for daffy to come home! Counting down the days! :)

Princess Yen.

My dearest sweetheart princess, I miss you and will love you. I remember the first night you came into my life. You were that little whiny puppy, a little just like me, and wants the attention all the time. But I can't blame you, you give that puppy face and with those big shiny eyes of yours, what's to resist? You grew up, but your size don't change. You're still my small little puppy to me. I love to introduce you to my friends all the time, because you greet them by wagging your tail all the time. The only reason that make me hesitant on letting you out to guests, is because you lick people way too much. But I like it. I love it, it makes me feel love.

You grew up, snuggling beside the fridge for warm to sleep, suntanning and catching birds in the balcony. Sleeping with me at night, and only want to sleep on a pillow, and because of that have your butt facing towards me all the time. You wake me up with your licks for school, and for breakfast. I love tricking you with those beanbag toys (that were my mum's favourite McDonald's collection), playing fetch with it even though my mum always wanted to kill me for using her collection. I guess in the end she gave up and declared it was "princess' toys" anyway.

You grew up even more, and I remember one period of time, you stole the other dogs food, and became obese. Remembered your small little head, but a huge belly that follows behind. You were so fat that one period of time you fell sick, because your little legs couldn't take your weight anymore, and you just flop on the floor. Everyone was telling us that you need a diet. So we had to separate you during meal times, and cut down on your intake. And I remember times I had to feed you.

I won't deny that sometimes you made me angry, for fighting with the other dogs. You are so small, and the rest are huge, why don't you ever give up and see? You're one tough dog, but still small. You made me angry, for running away whenever the gate opens. Not because I have to chase you (I know I can outrun you, hah!) but because you just run in front of any car, which scares the hell out of me.

You grew so much older, but I failed I realised it due to your size. It hit me when you started to grow a tumour. I wish I could do something, and I wish I stay by your side, but school had me packing for UK. Last academic year, I was afraid that I couldn't send you off. But thankfully, summer came and we went for walks every night after dinner. You greeted ne every morning with your barks. I went away again, and I'm praying that I can come back in time.

But this time, a few days before I flew, you left, peacefully. Mum told me you had a meal and your routine morning wall with daddy, before you went away in your bed at 3am here (in the UK), 10am back home (in Singapore). Waking up to this news, I cried in bed. I miss you, and I am sorry that I'm not there to send you off.

I want to thank you for all the memories you made for me for the past 11 years. You made my childhood so wonderful and so much better. You'll be in a much better place now, with no pain, and so much love with all the other dogs that went over. I'll miss you.

RIP Princess.

You'll be dearly missed, and forever be loved by us.

Mini pizza day!

We saw our friend posted on how to make a mini pizza on tumblr and we immediately thought the same way, "Let's do it!". Of course, the whoever was the original person who did this has a much better presentation than ours. But it still taste so damn good. And it's so easy and fast (except when you're really hungry and having to wait for it to bake in the oven..).

Ingredients you would need:

  • Tortilla wraps
  • Pesto sauce
  • Mushrooms
  • Salami or any kind of meat you want
  • Cheese
Amount of the ingredients are basically up to you.

1. Preheat your oven to about 150degrees at fan mode.

2. Get your tortilla wrap and cut as many circles out as you possibly can so you don't waste the tortilla wraps. We use a peanut butter cap. Make sure your circle is slightly bigger than your cupcake mould so that the ingredients can rest in the "cup".

3. Whatever meat you're using, cut it either 1 big piece or many small pieces. For ours, we cut our salami into quarters so that it fits just nicely into the circle tortilla.

4. Slice up your mushrooms in this manner so that it would be able to cook faster and not let the rest of the ingredient burn. Slice it thinly.

Now, it's time to get your cupcake baking tray out! :)

5. Put your circle tortilla wraps inside. It is a little difficult because it is bigger than the tray itself. Try making it all even at the sides, so it will sit nicely.

6. Add your pesto sauce! Try smearing it all over the tortilla, even the sides that goes upwards or else when you bake it, it gets a little too tough to eat. The sauce softens it a little.

7. Add your ingredients. You should add the meat at the bottom first, because mushrooms take a longer time to cook. Then add your cheese as toppings.

Some people add their cheese before adding the other ingredients but we prefer ours coated over it. Putting the cheese before the rest may make it look nicer.

8. Pop it into the oven. And just wait for the cheese to turn golden so there is this crispy texture. :D Just gently use a spoon and scoop it out, the tortilla will be hard and the shape will be maintain so you need not need to worry about "breaking" it.

And our final product! :) As I said, it doesn't look that nice, but it taste so awesome. A simple dish to whip up for dinner/snacks!
